Homemade fluff of the Warp Angels Chapter

Here is what I have so far for my bike army that will be a combination of the Dark Angel and Space Marine codex. Parts of the fluff have been lifted from the DA codex. (Criticism/suggestions welcome!)

Following the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, the Ultramarines and Dark Angels set out to the Cadia Sector driving back daemon and traitor alike. Upon the implementation of the Codex Astartes, the legions of remaining space marines were broken up into chapters. The triumphs of the Ultramarine and Dark Angel bike companies in the Cadia sector showed promise, and thus the Warp Angels were created using Gene seed from both legions. With the guidance of the Ravenwing, the Warp Angels were structured in a similar fashion, however instead of a single company; the entire chapter is on bikes and land speeders believing aggressive hard hitting tactics to be the key to victory. Having close ties to the Ultramarines, the Warp Angels have access to their founding chapter’s armory. While the chapter utilizes bikes and speeders, the Ultramarines flyers in particular come in handy when facing enemies in the skies above the battlefield.

40k Team Tourney Review

1. Sean’s IG and Joey’s Tau – 3 Wins / 0 Loses / 37 Battle Points

This was an interesting team and one that I’d always considered in team tournaments.   The IG player went for the max amount of Mech he could get without spending points on upgrades; the result of course was 3 chimeras and 2 leman Russ’.  The Tau player ran a nice variety of units from Stealth Suits to Broadsides and Crisis Suits.  Being the two armies they are, their ability to shoot from afar was just tremendous.  These are the boys that won the tourney overall.

2. Jonathan’s DE and Gordan’s Tyranids – 2 Wins/ 1 Lose/ 34 Battle Points

Running an interesting comp was Jonathans DE and Gordan’s Tyranids.  Gordan’s list is similar to what I was going to bring to the Crucible GT and I’m happy to see it did well. The swarmlord at 750 points is just a pure beat stick. Of course being backed up by Jon’s DE was a plus with venoms and raiders.  These guys are great players both on the field and in person and did very well in the tourney.

3. James and Joseph’s  Orks – 2 Wins/ 1 Lose / 28 Battle Points

Anyone new or old to Warhammer 40,000 will know they’re in for it when facing down 182 Orks.  This is the green tide after all.  When I first heard this was being played I was surprised someone could move that many models, which ultimately cost them a turn or two each round.  Despite the glaring fact they would have a rough time moving, when they got into assault they would annihilate whatever they touched.  I wouldn’t recommend this army for beginners of the game at 750 points, but if you’re a vet and you’ve got the models, unleash the tide!

4. Stephan and Mike: IG and Necrons – 1 Win/ 1 Draw/ 1 Lose/ 31 Battle Points

This team was a bit newer to game and the tourney was an excellent way to gage them.  Stephan ran IG but didn’t completely go the Mech route which was a nice departure from 5th edition.  Having a variety of units to choose from is an excellent way to deal with odd units throughout a tournament.  Mike ran Necrons and it looked to be a very solid list with Wraiths and scarabs.  I wasn’t able to watch their games as much but netting fourth place out of the overall tourney tells me these boys have a solid handle on the rules.  Had they been able to win their draw they would have easily been third place.

5. Austin and David: Grey Knights and Necrons – 1 Win/ 2 Loses/ 21 Battle Points

Austin claiming to bring the cheese did so the best he could with Grey Knights at 750.  A Techmarine dropping an Orbital Bombardment each turn, Coteaz manning the quad gun, and a vindicare assassin are a mean mix.  David of course being the better player of the two ran a mean Necron list with the stormlord and capitalizing on the defense line.  Upon seeing their lists I’m surprised they didn’t do better, although I’m sure if there were more flyers present they would have done considerable better.

6. Josh and Gage: Sisters of Battle and Space Wolves – 1 Win/ 2 Loses/ 6 Battle Points

I’m very happy the Sisters managed to make it out along with the Wolves.  Josh is a great tactical player and painter so it’s always nice when he is around for a tourney.  Gage brought space wolves which of course have one of the best troop choices in the whole game with Grey Hunters.  Being that I’ve only faced Sisters once in 5th edition I can’t really comment here but they’re a solid army once you get them down and backed up by wolves will make beating them an uphill battle.

7. Joseph IV and Robert: Tau and Space Marines – 0 Wins/ 1 Draw/ 2 Loses/ 17 Battle Points

These guys are new to our scene, but have quite a collection.  Joe ran an awesome Tau list that managed to hold off 91 Orks when I jumped in to help.  Robert commanded the Space Marines with Calgar and drop pods.  I liked the balance these two armies brought with it being similar to my teams Chaos Daemon/IG mix.  Having long range shooting and deep striking units into enemy lines is extremely effective.

8. Jason and Patrick: Chaos Daemons and IG – 0 Wins/ 3 Loses/ 6 Battle Points

Jason ran the new Chaos Daemons that came out the same day as the tourney.  Some tourneys wait a month for players to get used to a new codex but being that it was a friendly team tournament with no prizes I saw no problem with it.  The codex seemed more solid with deployment but only time will tell.  I ran IG minimum slot choices and spending points on my heavies.  The list was very dakka heavy but lacked AP 2 weapons.  Overall it was fun playing but I think I’d drop some points off the heavies and invest in a defense line.  Unfortunately Jason had to drop for work but it was still good to test out the team.

40k Team Tournament

While I’ve been working on the Arena of Death board a local group buddy suggested I hold a 40k team tournament.  What rules and FOC should I use for it since there is no standard…

Arena of Death Board Update

Not much of an update this week for the Arena of Death board.  I picked up some cork tiles and started the platform in the center of the board.
